This referral would be appropriate if they have already done investigations regarding a pulmonary embolism, and myocardial infarction. These conditions have similar ways of presenting so it is important to mention that the referral is not appropriate until these other conditions have been ruled out with investigations
If the patient was cleared from these symptoms, they would be appropriate for physiotherapy as this patient would benefit from an assessment and treatment.

This patient would benefit from physiotherapy as it is within our scope of physiotherapy to help with shortness of breath, chest pain, and secretion clearance.
An element of this case that should still be considered is how much his shortness of breath would affect his assessment and treatment. You do not want to exacerbate his symptoms, so you must be diligent, assess carefully, and monitor his symptoms throughout the assessment and treatment.
Considering he is short of breath, it is important to note that communication may be an issue. Be aware that you may have to be more concise, ask yes or no questions, or find other strategies to help the patient’s shortness of breath.
